Gun Runner goes out on top with a win in the Pegasus at Gulfstream

Tom Dellerba

Gun Runner looked to be much the best in the 2nd annual Pegasus World Cup on January 27th at Gulfstream Park. Trainer Steve Assmussen and his team had this horse ready to fire. Jockey Geroux has been on the horse in all of his career starts and knows how to get the horse home. Gun Runner is well traveled and as won on many different courses across the country. Earlier in the week Gun Runner received Horse of the Year honors. Gun Runner made $7 million in earnings by winning the Pegasus World Cup. He earned just under $16 million in his career. Now Gun Runner will be sent to the farm to be a stud. Stud fees are set at $70,000. West Coast trained by Bob Baffert put in a real solid performance staying in striking distance of Gun Runner but not able to catch this super horse. Now with Gun Runner gone and heading to the farm. West Coast may be the best horse out there, time will tell. Thanks for all the memories Gun Runner!
